Programs are one of the first impressions you will make at your recital. Make it a good one!
I like to ask one of my outgoing students to hand out programs to guests as they enter the recital and welcome them with a big smile!
Here are some ideas for your next recital programs.
Schaum Piano offers over 20 recital program blanks. Simply order online, have them shipped to your doorstep and print!
Download and Print
Many teachers with an eye for design offer free downloadable recital program blanks.
Have each of your students submit a design for the cover of your recital program. After all entries are submitted, have the students vote on their favorite. The winner is featured at the recital! If you have a tie, or want to showcase more than one design, put the second design on the back cover. Be sure to have the winner(s) stand and be recognized with lots of applause!
In the same manner of the design contest, have each students submit a colored picture like this one from Susan Hong.
Several online companies feature high quality, royalty free images. There are some great musical designs that would make a beautiful program design. Google “stock images” and a whole list of companies will come up and you can browse their designs.

Inside the Program
Now that we have covered some of the many options for the front of your programs, let’s talk about the inside. Other than your students’ names, the pieces they are performing, and composer’s names, here are a few ideas you can include.
- Welcome or Thank You message to parents and guests
- Musical quote or poem
- Pictures and/or bios for each student
- How long each student has been playing piano
- Your studio website or FaceBook page
- Dates for upcoming performances
- Song lyrics
- Award recipients
Here is a thank you message I have included on one of my programs. Feel free to use this or tweak it.
To my students, I am so blessed to have each one of you in my life. I love the time we share together and it is a joy to watch you grow into the musicians that you have become. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in preparing for your performance today. I am so proud of you!
Parents, thank you for your continued support and encouragement in your child’s musical growth. You are an integral part of their success. This would not be possible without you.
Grandparents, family, and friends, thank you for coming today to show these young musicians support. We are so glad to have you here and hope you enjoy the performance!
Happy Program designing!
